Forrest Griffin is excited to take on Chael Sonnen ? UFC News
While President of UFC Dana White believes Forrest Griffin is no more a fighter, the latter still has faith in his fighting skills. In an interview with MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani, Griffin spoke of the many issues concerning his recent performances. The Las Vegas resident revealed that he knows he is not the best in the industry, but he definitely is among the top ten.
When asked about his rematch against ?The American Gangster? Chael Sonnen, Griffin revealed that it is going to be an exciting match, as both fighters complement each other?s style.
?I think its stylistically a good matchup for me,? said Griffin. ?I honestly, the thing that's been getting me in trouble are guys that are quicker than me and beating me to the punch with something I don't see coming. That's the problem I've had recently.?
He spoke of his first match against Sonnen in 2003, which he won. According to Griffin, he thought wrestlers usually come with high-jumping styles but Sonnen was different.
?I thought wrestling was the stuff where people jumped off ropes. So that was my experience with wrestling. He's a wrestler. Is he going to, like, flying elbow me? Is he going to do an atomic bomb drop or something??
After nine years to their first match, Griffin still believes Sonnen has the potential to put up a solid performance.
It should be noted here that Griffin is being advised by Dana White to resign, but he is hopeful that he has enough to stay in the industry for long.
Griffin insisted that he loves fighting, and that even though he is not the best he is still among the elite fighters in his division. Furthermore, Griffin revealed that he knows there are still a lot of people in the division whom he can beat.
The Las Vegas resident tagged himself as a realist who does not go around saying ?he is the best?. However, Griffin did admit the fact that fans love it when fighters create hype by trash-talking, something he is not very fond of or he has never done it throughout his career.
